On Wednesday 3 May Peter Ford RWA will be giving a free talk exclusively for Friends…

Peter Ford RE RWA – ‘Size Matters – My Life with Bookplates’
Wednesday 3 May 6-7pm – Family Room, RWA
. Book here.

Peter Ford is an artist specializing in experimental printmaking and papermaking (see our Q&A with Peter here.) This illustrated talk will be focused on ‘ExLibris’ – also known as bookplates – and the impact that making bookplates has had on his focus as an artist.

Peter says:

“Most people who are interested in graphic art and books will know that a bookplate is a small printed label to identify the ownership of books in a personal or institutional library.

My first encounter with contemporary artist-designed bookplates was thirty-seven years ago in Poland and Russia. I was intrigued by these small-scale designs which inventively combined text and image. At first, I made bookplates for myself, sometimes using a pseudonym, and family members. After joining the Bookplate Society I received commissions and occasionally I still do.

In 1994 I did not anticipate the transforming affect this new direction would have on my subsequent life. For example, if I had not made ExLibris designs and exhibited them internationally I would not have been invited to exhibit in China in 2007. The story and the travels continue…. “

Friends can book their free places here.
