Following the success of the 2019 Friends’ Exhibition at the RWA, we are delighted to announce an exciting new venture for April 2020: a major six-week show of Friends’ 2-D art at the Goods Shed Arts Centre, Tetbury. Here’s how you can enter…
The Friends exhibition earlier this year was acknowledged by all to be a great success, with the works of a very high standard, good visitor numbers and strong sales. We thought it was only right to follow this up with more opportunities for the Friends to showcase their work – and this year we’re delighted to announce a new partnership with the Goods Shed, Tetbury.
All Friends will be able to submit works for selection, and we expect that we will be able to hang up to 100 pieces in the show (though unfortunately we can display wall-mounted works only, so no sculpture or 3-D works requiring floor space).
The Goods Shed has a strong volunteer network, and we are anticipating plenty of Cotswolds art enthusiasts and potential buyers to pop into the show! The Goods Shed takes a commission on art sales of just 25% .
The selection will be on Sunday 26 April at the RWA in Bristol by three invited selectors managed by Academician Stephen Jacobson (the other two will be announced in the New Year). The chosen works will then be transported to Tetbury on the morning of Monday 27 April. Hanging will take place on 27th and 28th April ready for opening on Wednesday 29th April.
The Private View will be held the following week on Wednesday 6 May from 6.30 – 8.30pm. (See all times on the entry form.)
All the artworks will be available to buy.
About the Goods Shed
The Goods Shed in Tetbury is a multipurpose community hub and a fantastic place to show art: a beautiful, dynamic space with excellent light and a high vaulted ceiling.
It benefits from significant footfall, as substantial car park, and the excellent Whistlestop café (open from 10.00-4.00 from Wednesdays – Sundays, with both indoor and outdoor seating).
We’re delighted to be partnering with the Goods Shed and from this year we plan to run annual Friends’ shows, alternating between Tetbury and the RWA, Bristol.

Entering the Exhibition
Friends can enter up to four artworks at a cost of £10 per entry (non-returnable). Entry packs including full terms and conditions were mailed out in the November Friends’ printed newsletter – but you can also pick the forms up at the RWA Welcome desk.
Important: We can only accept wall mounted work. Unfortunately we cannot accommodate free standing work such as sculptures due to space restrictions at the Goods Shed.
Here are some of the key dates:
Entry form with payment deadline: 15 April 2020

Collection of non-selected work: Sunday 26 April – 2.30pm-4pm

Can you help?
We need your help to make this first exhibition at Tetbury a success.
Volunteers will be required for the Selection Day, Transporting artworks, the Hanging Days and weekend stewarding. Tetbury has a dedicated team of volunteers who will steward in the week. The Friends will need to steward at the weekends.
If you can help in any way, please contact Jacqueline Pucher at friends@rwa.org.uk
Insurance for artists with a-n
RWA Friends will know that when they exhibit their work the RWA does not provide insurance. The Friends Exhibition in the Goods Shed in Tetbury will require you to insure your own work.
The Artist’s Newsletter, more commonly known as ‘a-n’ has recently revamped and integrated its website so it now effectively offers a web-based resource to carry forward its remit of supporting and stimulating artistic practice.
Here you can access its knowledge bank of resources, explore artist networks, read the news, reviews and critical writing featured in the magazine, and explore the artist to artist zone that is Artists Talking.
There is a lot more too, so whether you’re an artist or merely interested in artist practice this is probably the best web destination for you: http://www.a-n.co.uk
Subscription to a-n costs £38 a year.
Public & Products Liability and Professional Indemnity (PPL and PI) insurance
£5m Public & Products Liability insurance and £5m Professional Indemnity insurance cover is included with a-n Artist membership.
